Meditation for a Better Life
Summer in Europe
Many people leave Dubai to cooler climates in summer, and we are very fortunate to have on the most connected airports in the world at our doorstep. This summer I had the opportunity to attend a new kind of event, so I went for it! Since my university years I have always found myself in a place where I “had” to attend a lot of training, courses, workshops, professional development, until a few years later I found myself seeking these things, and anything else in the name of self-development, which turned eventually to self-understanding, and I think we all want to understand ourselves better in some way. More recently I became interested in energy work and spirituality, and the human being’s amazing ability to heal from within, rather than from outside as the traditional model of medicine seems to dictate.
I have just returned from a very interesting weekend retreat in Basel, Switzerland, at a packed event in a huge convention centre (8100 people!), and a lot of time was spent understanding meditation, breathing, energy and the human system. I came out of it a wiser person (I hope!) and with a commitment to use the methods I learned to improve my life, which automatically improves the lives of those around me as well.
Brain Coherence
It is fascinating to read about studies involving the brain and neural network. I did not understand how people could go from typing with 1 finger (2 words per minute?) to typing with multiple fingers at the same time, to typing with their whole hands with their eyes closed, without even looking at the screen or the keyboard! Well apparently “nerves that fire together, wire together” as Dr Joe Dispenza likes to say, and the more you use those synaptic connections, the more solid the connection becomes, and it becomes second nature to the extent that your body can perform this task without “thinking” in the normal sense. And the beauty of this is, if you want to build a new network for a new task, all you have to do is stop using the old “network” and it will come apart, and as you practice a new task, a new network will be built in that area of the brain.
It then makes sense that when all parts of the brain are talking well together, you have a huge amount of processing power and synchronisation, which leads to better bodily “performance”, but Dr Joe’s research shows when the different parts of the brain hit a certain wavelength (called “high beta”) we have the opposite of coherence, we have “crossed wires” and overthinking at that stage just leads to more confusion and poor decision making. So no amount of extra motivation/prodding/torture will result in better brain performance, until the brain waves return to a more calm state, and the greatest performance is achieved when the brain waves synchronise with each other.
There are probably videos of this that you can look up if it interests you.
Lifelong Journey
I hope to continue this work, now that I have started, and I hope it inspires every single person out there to work on themselves, as it is the work of a lifetime, and has the potential to create an amazing experience for everyone.
